Travellers to the UK city of Bath have a huge choice of accommodation options to pick from – and for a mid-range option they could do a lot worse than the 3-star Royal Hotel.

What’s the location like?

Situated directly opposite Bath Spa train station, this is an ideal launchpad into Bath’s myriad of attractions and charms. It’s a mere 5‑minute stroll to the city’s Thermal Bath Spa and only seconds further on to the historic Roman Baths museum complex.

How would you describe the style and character?

Timeless charm would fit the bill. Opened in 1846 and designed by the renowned Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the hotel is housed within a Grade II listed Victorian-era building – and while the inside is every inch a modern hotel, the well-preserved exterior takes you back in time.

What services and facilities are on offer?

Plenty, especially in-room. There’s free Wi-Fi at guests’ disposal, plus comfortable lounges for unwinding, and 24-hour reception ready to help anytime.

What about the guest rooms?

They are individually decorated and blend classic comfort with a dash of luxury. There are Merino wool blankets, plush goose feather and down pillows, and crisp Egyptian cotton linens. Each room also comes with an en suite bathroom, flat-screen TV, DVD player, iPod dock and tea/coffee-makers.

How’s the food and drink?

For a 3-star hotel, you couldn’t hope for more. The Brasserie Brunel offers a Parisian brasserie experience, serving French-inspired dishes. Named after the hotel’s founding year, the 1846 Bar serves a variety of drinks and homemade snacks. Hearty breakfasts are served daily too.

Is it value for money?

While not budget-priced, with its combination of a central location, charming Victorian character, well-equipped rooms and on-site bar and restaurant, the Royal Hotel justifies the cost.
