Astrup Fearnley Museum

For culture vultures coming to Oslo, the Astrup Fearnley Museum is a must-visit attraction. Nestled in a picturesque location on the banks of the Oslo Fjord, the museum was designed by legendary Italian architect Renzo Piano and is home to an incredible collection of modern and contemporary art, regarded being many as one of most significant in Northern Europe. Among the works on display are pieces by iconic artists such as Damien Hirst, Anselm Kiefer and Jeff Koons. As well as a permanent collection, the museum also hosts a conveyor belt of rotating exhibitions, often featuring internationally renowned names. As for the building itself, it is inspired by its maritime surroundings and comprises three pavilions under one distinctive glass, sail-shaped roof, while cable rigged steel columns mirror the masts of the sailboats in the nearby harbour.
