The Most Expensive Summer Destinations In The UK & Ireland

Edinburgh is the most expensive summer destination in the United Kingdom and Ireland for travellers, according to a survey conducted by Cheaprooms.co.uk.

The survey compared hotel rates for the most affordable double room across 40 popular destinations for August 2015. Only centrally located hotels and guest houses rated at least three stars and with positive average guest reviews were considered. The major cities of the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man were also included.

The results found the the Scottish capital of Edinburgh to be the most expensive, with visitors having to pay an average of £134 per night for the most affordable double room. The Edinburgh Festival takes place from August 7th – 31st.

The city of Bath ranks as the 2nd most expensive destination, with an average price of £106 per night, followed by St Peter Port, capital of Guernsey, at £104. A little cheaper is Oxford (£98), ranked as the 4th most expensive destination, and London (£97) as the 5th priciest.

Unsurprisingly, the highly popular city of Dublin came out as the most expensive destination in Ireland. With an average price of £94 per night, the Irish capital ranks as the 10th most expensive destination in the UK.

The following table shows the survey results, which compared 40 popular destinations in the UK and Ireland. Prices reflect the average daily rate for each destination’s cheapest available double room (minimum 3 star hotel) for the period August 1st -31st.
