Railworld Wildlife Haven

For most of us, one of the enduring memories of childhood is how trains managed to capture our imagination. And visitors to Peterborough for whom this fascination still lingers are in for a real treat thanks to the Railworld Wildlife Haven, based next to Peterborough's Nene Valley Railway Station. They are a charity run organisation looked after entirely by volunteers, and their founding Chairman, Rev Richard Paten, purchased the old power station coal yard in 1985. The venue has grown to become one of the city's most popular attractions, and is home to over 2,000 sqft of Model Railways along with a Nature Haven with an intriguing collection of re-purposed Victorian engineering. Volunteers have also created an Environmental Education Centre with its own solar powered revolving World. Highlights include a 140 tonne Danish Pacific 996 steam engine (under restoration), the world's first Hovertrain experiment - RTV 31! Plus a Big Cinema screenings film by Tom Haynes 'Steam on the Main Line'. ADDRESS Oundle Road, Peterborough, PE2 9NR (access thru Pleasure Fair Meadow car park - PE2 8AT) OPENING HOURS 11am-4pm Sat/Sunday and Wednesday from Easter to October + More school holidays!
