Edinburgh Revealed as Costliest European City in which to Ring in the New Year

Edinburgh has just earned the distinction of being the most expensive city in Europe in which to ring in the New Year. A new survey from Cheaprooms.co.uk came to this conclusion after comparing 30 major European destinations. The cost of overnight lodging on December 31, 2014 served as the basis of comparison.

To stay overnight in Edinburgh, Scotland, New Year’s Eve celebrators can expect to spend GBP 217 on December 31, and that’s for the cheapest available double room. It bears mentioning that the survey excluded hotels that were not centrally located, that had earned less than three stars and that lacked a positive average rating by past guests.

The second most expensive destination on the survey is Amsterdam, with a price tag of only a few pounds fewer than Edinburgh. Venice rounds out the Top 3 with an overnight rate of GBP 207 for the least expensive double room.

The following table compares New Year’s Eve hotel rates for 30 destinations in Europe. The prices shown reflect the rates on December 31, 2014 for the cheapest available double room. Only centrally located hotels rated at least three starts and having a positive average client rating have been considered by the survey. All rates were established on December 27 via the hotel comparison website Kayak.
